Liturgical Art
Liturgical design work is usually a project commissioned by a specific congregation with a particular concept or purpose in mind. These commissions are among Eileen’s favorite to do as they present artistic, intellectual and spiritual challenge. The congregation or committee share their general idea, then Eileen responds with sketches and a proposal for the project as well as the cost estimates. Eileen fasts in the beginning of the project to gain the leading of the Holy Spirit and stays in prayer throughout the project to maintain that vision. She also stays in close contact with the client as the work progresses.
Needlepoint KneelersSt. Andrews By-The-Sea Episcopal Church in Destin, Florida commissioned Eileen Dudley to design twenty kneelers depicting major biblical events in both Old and New Testaments. The design project was completed in 1991 (displayed in the first photo.) The entire project was then crafted in needlepoint by the church members. It was completed and dedicated in 1998. |
