Liturgical Art
Liturgical design work is usually a project commissioned by a specific congregation with a particular concept or purpose in mind. These commissions are among Eileen’s favorite to do as they present artistic, intellectual and spiritual challenge. The congregation or committee share their general idea, then after taking time for prayer and research, Eileen responds with sketches as well as practical details of the project. Throughout the project Eileen strives to "listen to the work" and be faithful to her vision as well as maintain close contact with the client.
Needlepoint KneelersSt. Andrews By-The-Sea Episcopal Church in Destin, Florida commissioned Eileen Dudley to design twenty kneelers depicting major biblical events in both Old and New Testaments. The design project was completed in 1991 (displayed in the first photo.) The entire project was then crafted in needlepoint by the church members. It was completed and dedicated in 1998. |
